How Your Soulmate Score Is Calculated
Search for a soulmate calculator online, and you will find plenty of tools. Many of them work like a soulmate calculator by name, turning letters into a percentage just for fun. This is different. It is a true soulmate calculator, built on the same method I use for in-person Kundli matching.
When you enter your details above, the calculator looks at where the Moon sat in the sky at the moment of your birth. This one position decides two things: your Nakshatra, or birth star, and your Rashi, or Moon sign. In Vedic astrology, these placements reveal your emotional nature far more than your Sun sign does.
Once both charts are ready, I compare them across eight categories called Kootas. Each one checks a different layer of compatibility:
- Varna looks at your basic nature and ego.
- Vashya checks mutual attraction and influence.
- Tara studies the connection between your health and well-being.
- Yoni reflects instinctive, physical compatibility.
- Graha Maitri compares the mental friendship between your ruling planets.
- Gana looks at temperament, whether calm, balanced, or intense.
- Bhakoot checks long-term growth and financial harmony.
- Nadi examines genetic and health compatibility, often considered the most important among the eight.
Each Koota carries its own points, for a total of 36. This is the Ashtakoot Guna Milan system, first described in classical texts such as the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, and still used before many Hindu marriages today.
One more thing. You do not need your exact birth time for a meaningful result. Your date of birth alone places the Moon correctly in almost every case. If you do know your birth time, add it. It sharpens the Pada, or quarter, of your Nakshatra for an even more precise reading.
What Your Soulmate Compatibility Score Means
Once your result appears, you will see a score out of 36 and one of four categories. Here is what each one means.
Uttamottam 32–36 points
A rare and excellent match. Almost every Koota lines up in your favor, the kind of compatibility that traditional matchmakers look for first.
Uttam 24–31 points
A strong match with real potential. A few areas may need patience, but the foundation is solid.
Madhyam 18–23 points
An average score. Some Kootas align well; others do not. This does not mean the relationship cannot work. It simply means certain areas deserve more attention, and in many cases, simple remedies can help balance things out.
Adham Below 18 points
This score points to real differences between your charts. It is not a verdict on your relationship, but it is a sign that a closer look, with your full birth details and a proper Kundli, would help before any big decisions.
One Koota deserves a special mention. If your result shows a Nadi Dosha, meaning you and your partner share the same Nadi, please do not panic. This is one of the most talked-about factors in Kundli matching, and yes, it carries weight. But it is also one of the most commonly addressed through remedies, specific pujas, or careful timing for important decisions. A shared Nadi is not an automatic no — it simply needs careful handling.
This calculator focuses on Guna Milan through your Moon chart. It does not check Mangal Dosha, which looks at the placement of Mars and can affect marriage timing and harmony. If you would like that checked too, along with a full review of your Navamsa (D9) chart for marriage strength, my Marriage Astrology services cover this in detail.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this soulmate calculator free, and is it really based on date of birth?
Yes. This free soulmate calculator needs no signup or payment to see your result. It is a true love calculator: soulmate compatibility here comes from real astronomical positions on your date of birth, not random numbers picked for entertainment. Enter your details, and your full Guna Milan score and breakdown appear right away.
How is soulmate compatibility actually calculated?
I use the Moon's position at the moment of birth for both people to find each person's Nakshatra and Rashi. These are then compared across eight traditional categories called Kootas, covering everything from temperament to long-term harmony. Each Koota adds points toward a total of 36. This method, called Ashtakoot Guna Milan, comes from classical Vedic texts and has guided Indian marriages for generations.
Do I need my exact birth time for an accurate result?
Not necessarily. Your date of birth places the Moon in the correct Nakshatra and Rashi for most calculations, so you still get a genuine score. Your birth time helps refine the Pada, or quarter, of your Nakshatra, which matters for very precise readings. If you do not know your birth time, the calculator uses midday as a general estimate, and the result remains meaningful.
Can this tool tell me who my soulmate is?
Not quite. This calculator measures compatibility between two specific people whose birth details you enter. It cannot search the world and point to a stranger as the one. If you are asking who is my soulmate about someone specific in your life, a partner, a crush, or someone new, enter both sets of details, and the score will show how your charts align with theirs.
What is the difference between a soulmate and a twin flame?
In Vedic thinking, a soulmate is someone whose chart complements yours, bringing balance and comfort, which is exactly what Guna Milan measures. A twin flame is a more intense idea, often described as meeting someone who mirrors you so closely that the connection feels as disruptive as it is magnetic. A soulmate connection tends to feel supportive. A twin flame connection often pushes both people to grow through challenge.
Are there different types of soulmates?
Yes. Not every important soulmate is a romantic partner. Vedic astrology recognizes connections through family placements, friendships, and people who appear briefly yet change your direction, often linked to karmic patterns in a chart. A romantic soulmate, the kind this calculator focuses on, is just one type, though usually the one people are most curious about.
What does a low Guna Milan score actually mean for my relationship?
A lower score, what we call Madhyam or Adham, highlights areas where your charts differ. It does not predict failure. Many long, happy marriages have scores in this range. What it does mean is that certain areas, such as communication, temperament, or long-term planning, may need more conscious effort. Pairing this with a few simple remedies often makes a real difference.
What if my partner and I share the same Nadi?
A shared Nadi, known as Nadi Dosha, is one of the most discussed factors in Kundli matching, and it does carry weight, particularly for health and lineage. It is also one of the most commonly worked-with doshas, with remedies and guidance available based on your full charts. A personal consultation helps here, so we can look at the complete picture together.
How can I tell if my soulmate is thinking about me?
Many people notice a sudden pull toward someone, recurring dreams, or a string of coincidences, often around the time certain planets move through significant houses in their chart. These signs are personal and hard to measure on their own. Vedic astrology does look at planetary transits to understand timing in relationships, so if you have been noticing patterns like this, it may be worth exploring what is currently active in your chart.

A Note From Pt. Anil Acharya Ji
A calculator, however accurate, is only a starting point. I built this tool so you can get a genuine first look at your compatibility, grounded in the same Ashtakoot Guna Milan system I have used for over 15 years and in 50,000+ consultations in my practice in Surat.
But your score is just one part of the picture. A complete Kundli matching review also looks at Mangal Dosha, your Navamsa (D9) chart for marriage strength, and specific remedies to strengthen a weaker area. None of that fits into a quick calculator, but it does fit into a conversation.
If you would like a full, personalized reading for yourself and your partner, message me on WhatsApp with both your birth details. I will review your charts personally and walk you through what they mean for your relationship.
