Scores run from 0 to 100 percent. Here is how to read them.
Score Range | Reading | What It Means |
90–100% | Excellent | Strong natural alignment. Both nakshatras and planetary lords are in harmony. Good foundation for a lasting relationship. |
70–89% | Good | Solid compatibility with minor friction points. Most couples in long, stable relationships fall here. |
50–69% | Moderate | Workable compatibility. Some differences in temperament or emotional approach. Communication and mutual respect matter more here. |
Below 50% | Challenging | Notable incompatibilities exist. This does not rule out a relationship — but it calls for a deeper look. A kundli consultation is recommended before major decisions. |
One thing I tell every couple: the score is a starting point, not a verdict. I have seen couples with 62% scores build extraordinarily strong marriages. I have seen 88% scores that still came apart. The planets indicate tendencies. Human choices shape outcomes.
Name Compatibility vs Date of Birth Compatibility — Which Is More Accurate?
Name compatibility is the fastest read. It uses the numerical value of letters in both names. It is useful for a quick check. Think of it like taking your pulse rather than doing a full blood panel.
Date-of-birth compatibility is more detailed: your birth date determines your nakshatra and rashi. Nakshatra, a key Vedic astrology factor, reflects your emotional nature, subconscious patterns, and responses to stress and intimacy.
When the two methods give different scores, I always go with the birth date reading. Names can change. Your nakshatra does not.
If you do not know your exact birth time, date-of-birth analysis still provides a strong directional reading. Birth time is necessary for the ascendant and precise house calculations, but for nakshatra and moon sign matching—which drive most of the compatibility score—the date alone is usually sufficient.
Want to know if your compatibility extends to the timing of marriage? Your Dasha periods and the 7th house in your birth chart carry the answer. Read our guide to Future Spouse Prediction by Date of Birth, or book a consultation for a full reading.
Love Calculator vs Kundli Milan — What Is the Difference?
This calculator gives you a directional reading. Kundli Milan — traditional Vedic matchmaking — is a full-form compatibility analysis.
Kundli Milan considers 36 gunas (qualities) across 8 categories: Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Graha Maitri, Gana, Bhakut, and Nadi. It also checks for Manglik dosha, Nadi dosha, and compatibility at the chart level—including the navamsa chart, the marriage chart in Vedic astrology.
A score of 18 out of 36 is the traditional minimum for marriage. A score above 24 is considered a strong match. Above 30 is rare and considered very auspicious.
This online love calculator covers the core layers of this system with the information you enter. A full kundli milan requires your birth time, birth place, and a reading from a trained astrologer who can interpret the charts in context.
If your score here is below 50% and you are considering marriage, I would strongly recommend a full kundli compatibility consultation before making a final decision. Some doshas can be resolved with remedies. Others indicate genuine incompatibilities that warrant a clear understanding.
A Practitioner's Note — What I See in Compatible and Incompatible Charts
A couple came to me a few years ago — both from the same city, both professionals, a 3-year relationship. On paper, they looked well-suited. Their families approved. But they had recurring, unresolved conflicts around decision-making and emotional expression.
When I ran their charts, their nakshatras were in an Ashtam Tara relationship — the eighth category in the Tara compatibility system, which indicates significant stress and obstacles. Their Graha Maitri score was also weak: one partner's moon lord was neutral to the other's, but the second partner's moon lord was inimical to the first.
The score: 48 out of 100. Not catastrophically low. But the specific combination — Ashtam Tara plus weak Graha Maitri — explained exactly what they were experiencing. The conflict was not about personality. It was structural.
We worked on remedies. The couple also used this clarity to change how they framed their disagreements — understanding that the friction was inherent, not a matter of personal fault. They married. Last I heard, they were doing well — not because the incompatibilities disappeared, but because they understood them.
A score tells you what to look for. It does not tell you what to do about it. That is what a consultation is for.
Get a Personal Vedic Compatibility Reading
The calculator gives you a starting point. A personal reading goes further.
In a consultation, I review both charts in detail — including the navamsa (D9) chart, the 7th house and its lord, Venus's placement, and the current Dasha period for both individuals. I check for Manglik dosha, Nadi dosha, and other factors that do not appear in an online score. I also look at the timing: when is the most auspicious period for your relationship to move forward?
If your score is above 70% and you feel confident, that's great. If you have questions or moderate results, book a one-to-one reading for clarity.
