Nazar Dosh in Astrology — Kundali Signs, Planetary Causes & Vedic Remedies

By Astrologer Anil Acharya | AstroAmbe.com | 15+ Years of Vedic Astrology Practice | 50000+ Consultations

A businessman came to me three years ago. He was 44 years old. His textile export company had been doing well for over a decade. Then, over the course of eight months, everything changed.

Clients canceled orders without explanation. A long-standing partnership collapsed on the day of signing. His youngest child developed a persistent illness that no doctor could explain. His wife complained of constant fatigue. The house felt heavy, she said. The laughter had gone.

He had tried everything. Doctors. Business consultants. He had even changed his office location.

His birth chart told a different story. The Moon is placed in the 12th house. Rahu is directly aspecting the Moon. And at the time all of this started, he had entered Rahu Mahadasha.

This was nazar dosh — activated by planetary timing.

Within four months of the right remedies, the situation shifted. A new client came. His child recovered. The house became lighter.

That is what nazar dosh looks like in a kundali. And that is what this article will explain.

What Is Nazar Dosh in Vedic Astrology?

Nazar dosh, also called the evil eye effect, is one of the oldest concepts in Vedic spiritual tradition.

The Atharva Veda — one of the four Vedas — contains specific hymns addressing the effects of an envious or malicious gaze. This is not folklore. It is a classical scriptural acknowledgment that concentrated negative human energy can disturb a person’s pranic field.

In modern language, every human being has an aura — a subtle energy field surrounding the physical body. This aura is affected by the energy of the people around us. A genuinely envious gaze, sustained admiration laced with jealousy, or repeated negative intent directed at a person can disturb this aura.

When that disturbance is consistent enough, it manifests as nazar dosh — a genuine disruption to the energy and planetary balance governing the person’s life.

This is not the same as bad luck. And it is not the same as other planetary doshas. Understanding that distinction is the first step.

Nazar Dosh vs. Other Planetary Doshas — A Key Difference

Most people who search for nazar dosh in astrology do not realize how fundamentally different it is from doshas like Mangal dosh or Shani dosh.

Mangal dosh and Shani dosh are natal. They arise from the position of planets in your birth chart — they are part of your karmic blueprint from birth. You are born with them.

Nazar dosh is externally caused, not natal.

It arises from the energy of other people — their envy, their excessive admiration, their ill will — directed at you after your birth. Your chart does not create nazar dosh. But your chart determines how susceptible you are to it, and how severely it affects you when it occurs.

This distinction matters enormously for remedies. Natal doshas require one kind of work. Externally caused energy disturbances require an entirely different approach.

Which Planets in the Kundali Create Susceptibility to Nazar Dosh?

This is the question no other article on this topic answers. And it is the most important question.

Not everyone is equally affected by nazar dosh. A person with a strong, well-placed Moon and a protected aura may absorb envious energy with barely any effect. Another person with specific planetary combinations may be severely affected by even mild negative attention.

Here is what the kundali reveals.

The Moon — Your Aura’s Primary Shield

The Moon governs the mind, emotions, and the subtle body in Vedic astrology. When the Moon is strong — well-placed, unafflicted, in a friendly sign — it acts as a natural protective shield for your energy field.

When the Moon is weak, that shield weakens.

The most vulnerable Moon placements for nazar dosh susceptibility are:

Moon in the 6th house: The 6th house governs enemies, disputes, and disease. Moon here is exposed to adversarial energy by design.

Moon in the 8th house: The 8th governs hidden matters, sudden events, and occult forces. Moon in the 8th is directly in the field of invisible energies.

Moon in the 12th house: The 12th house governs losses, isolation, and the subconscious. Moon here is emotionally porous—highly sensitive to external energies.

Debilitated Moon (in Scorpio): A Moon in Scorpio loses its strength. The protective aura becomes thin and easily penetrated.

Moon hemmed between malefics (Papa Kartari): When Saturn sits in the 12th from Moon and Mars sits in the 2nd from Moon — or any malefic combination surrounds the Moon — the person’s emotional field is under constant pressure.

Rahu — The Amplifier of Absorbed Energy

Rahu is the planet of illusion, obsession, and foreign or unseen influences. In the context of nazar dosh, Rahu plays a specific role: it amplifies whatever negative energy the person has absorbed.

Rahu aspecting the Moon is one of the clearest indicators of nazar dosh susceptibility in a birth chart. This combination makes the native highly sensitive to other people’s energy — they absorb it without a filter.

Rahu in the 1st house (self and body) or Rahu in the 4th house (home and family) also increases the home and family’s collective susceptibility to negative external energy.

Saturn — The Weakener of Protection

Saturn governs discipline, delay, and karmic debt. When Saturn afflicts the Moon or sits in the 8th house without compensating protective influences, it reduces the native’s capacity to resist absorbed negativity.

Saturn in the 8th house with an afflicted Moon is one of the strongest combinations for persistent nazar dosh effects — particularly affecting finances and physical health over long periods.

Nakshatra Susceptibility — The Layer Most Astrologers Miss

Within each planetary placement, the nakshatra the Moon or Rahu occupies changes the nature and intensity of nazar dosh susceptibility.

Three nakshatras stand out in classical Vedic analysis.

Ashlesha nakshatra (Mercury-ruled, Naga deity): Ashlesha spans 16°40’ to 30°00’ Cancer. Its deity is the serpent — an entity deeply associated with absorbed and concealed energies. Moon in Ashlesha makes the native emotionally absorptive. They take in others’ feelings, including envy, without always being conscious of it. Nazar dosh in this placement often manifests as psychosomatic illness and unexplained anxiety.

Jyeshtha nakshatra (Mercury-ruled, Indra deity): Jyeshtha occupies 16°40’ to 30°00’ Scorpio. This nakshatra carries the energy of the eldest — the one who stands in front, who is visible, who is watched.

Those with Moon or lagna lord in Jyeshtha frequently attract the envious attention of others precisely because of their success or prominence. Nazar dosh here affects status, reputation, and career.

Mula nakshatra (Ketu-ruled, Nirriti deity): Mula spans 0° to 13°20’ Sagittarius. Its deity is Nirriti — the goddess of destruction and dissolution. Ketu’s rulership makes this nakshatra permeable to past-life and karmic energies. Nazar dosh in Mula nakshatra tends to dissolve what the native has built — sudden reversals in stable circumstances.

If your Moon, ascendant lord, or Rahu sits in any of these three nakshatras, your susceptibility to nazar dosh is significantly higher than average.

Symptoms of Nazar Dosh — What to Look For

Nazar dosh does not always announce itself clearly. Its symptoms often feel like ordinary bad luck. The difference is in the pattern.

Ordinary difficulties follow a cause-and-effect logic — a business decision leads to a loss, an illness has a diagnosable cause. Nazar dosh creates disruption that cannot be traced to a specific cause. Things go wrong at the moment they should go right.

Physical symptoms: Persistent fatigue that does not improve with rest. Recurring headaches without a medical cause. Children are becoming frequently ill without diagnosis. A general heaviness in the body that seems to lift when away from home.

Financial symptoms: Work or business that was progressing stalls suddenly. Clients withdraw without reason. Money arrives but disappears quickly. Deals collapse at the final stage — after everything appeared settled.

Relational symptoms: Sudden conflict in a previously peaceful relationship. Distance appears between partners without a specific incident causing it. If this pattern is familiar, you may also want to read about the astrological reasons behind an unhappy married life — the chart often reveals whether the cause is planetary or external.

Home symptoms: An atmosphere of unease that people entering the home notice. Repeated quarrels between family members over small matters. Children and pets behaving unusually without a physical cause.

For cases where home disturbance has escalated to persistent conflict or separation, our article on divorce causes and astrological remedies addresses what a kundali analysis reveals.

The key diagnostic question is always this: did these symptoms begin at a specific point in time, or did they develop slowly? Nazar dosh typically has a clear starting point — a period when life shifted. That timing often correlates with the beginning of a new Dasha period.

Nazar Dosh and Dasha Timing — The Activation Factor

This is the section that separates a kundali-based understanding of nazar dosh from generic advice.

Having a susceptible chart does not mean nazar dosh will affect you continuously throughout your life. The severity of the effect depends significantly on which Dasha period is active at the time.

Rahu Mahadasha: This is the highest-risk period for nazar dosh activation. Rahu governs illusion, foreign influences, and the amplification of absorbed energy. When Rahu Mahadasha begins — especially for those with Rahu aspecting Moon — even mild external negative energy can have disproportionate effects.

Saturn Mahadasha with an afflicted Moon: Saturn’s period slows everything and increases karmic sensitivity. If the Moon is already weak in the natal chart, Saturn’s Mahadasha reduces the aura’s resilience to external energy.

Rahu or Saturn Antardasha within another Mahadasha: Even within a generally positive major period, a Rahu or Saturn sub-period can temporarily activate nazar dosh vulnerability. Many clients come to me having had a generally good Dasha period interrupted by an unexplained difficult phase — often this is Rahu or Saturn Antardasha doing exactly this.

The reverse is equally important. During Jupiter Mahadasha or Venus Mahadasha, even a susceptible chart is well-protected. Jupiter’s expansive benefic energy strengthens the aura’s natural defenses. These periods are the safest for people with known nazar dosh susceptibility.

This Dasha-awareness approach is what makes a personalized kundali consultation so different from generic nazar dosh advice. The remedy needed during Rahu Mahadasha is not the same as the remedy needed during Jupiter Mahadasha.

Case Study — Nazar Dosh, Rahu Mahadasha, and Business Collapse

The businessman I mentioned at the beginning of this article deserves a fuller account — because his case illustrates every principle above.

His birth chart showed Moon placed in the 12th house in Scorpio — a debilitated, emotionally porous placement. Rahu was placed in the 6th house and aspecting the Moon directly. This is one of the clearest combinations of nazar dosh susceptibility in Vedic astrology.

His Moon was in Jyeshtha nakshatra — the nakshatra of prominence and visible success. For twenty years, his business had flourished. He was well-known in his industry. He received a great deal of admiration — and inevitably, envy.

When he entered Rahu Mahadasha, the amplification began. The absorbed envy and negative attention of years — which had not affected him significantly during his protective Dasha periods before — became activated. Rahu, already aspecting his Moon, began channeling that accumulated external energy directly into his life.

The timing was precise. I could identify the month his Rahu Mahadasha began. His clients had begun canceling one month later.

The remedies I prescribed were chart-specific:

Moon strengthening — Monday fasting, pearl gemstone in silver on the little finger of the right hand, Chandra mantra recitation at night. This addressed the core vulnerability.

Rahu pacification — coconut offering at a Rahu temple on Saturdays, Rahu Beej mantra japa for 18,000 repetitions completed over three months with a pandit. This addressed the amplifying planet.

Nazar dosh nivaran yantra — energized and installed at the main entrance of his home and office.

By the fourth month, a new client approached with a larger contract than any he had previously held. His child recovered fully. His wife’s fatigue resolved. The atmosphere in the house changed — his words, not mine.

The remedies did not change his Rahu Mahadasha. Rahu continued to run. But they addressed the specific way his chart was channeling that period’s energy.

Vedic Remedies for Nazar Dosh — Chart-Matched, Not Generic

These remedies work. But the most effective approach is to match the remedy to your specific planetary combination. Use these as a solid foundation and seek a personalized recommendation for the highest impact.

Moon-Strengthening Remedies

These are the primary remedies for all nazar dosh cases where the Moon is weak or afflicted.

Monday fasting: Observe a fast every Monday. Eat one meal, preferably white or silver-coloured foods — rice, milk, white sesame. Break the fast after moonrise.

Chandra mantra: Chant the Moon’s beej mantra 108 times every Monday evening, facing the Moon.

ॐ श्रां श्रीं श्रौं सः चंद्रमसे नमः

(Om Shraam Shreem Shraum Sah Chandramasey Namaha)

Pearl gemstone: Wearing a natural pearl in silver on the little finger of the right hand strengthens the Moon’s energy and gradually rebuilds the aura’s protective capacity.

Offer water to the Moon: On Purnima (full moon), stand outside and offer water from a copper vessel toward the Moon while reciting the Chandra mantra. This is a simple but powerful practice.

Rahu Pacification Remedies

Coconut offering: On Saturday evenings, offer a whole coconut at a Rahu temple or place it in flowing water. The coconut absorbs negative energy.

Rahu Beej mantra: Chant the Rahu mantra 108 times on Saturdays.

भ्रांभ्रींभ्रौंसःराहवेनमः

(Om Bhraam Bhreem Bhraum Sah Rahave Namaha)

Donate dark items on Saturdays: Black sesame, dark blue cloth, iron, or coal — donated to a place of worship or the poor on Saturday.

Nazar Dosh-Specific Remedies

Nazar dosh nivaran yantra: A properly energized yantra placed at the main entrance of the home or worn on the body acts as a sustained protective shield. It must be energized correctly — a yantra that has not been properly activated through mantra and ritual will not produce results.

Hanuman Chalisa: Recite on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Lord Hanuman protects against all forms of negative energy. This is one of the most universally effective and accessible remedies regardless of chart placement.

Rock salt water floor cleaning: Dissolve rock salt in water and use it to clean the home's floors every Saturday. This clears accumulated negative energy from the home’s physical space.

Lemon and green chili: Hang seven green chilies and one lemon on a black thread at the main entrance of the home or shop. Replace every Saturday. This is the most traditional and widely used protection remedy in Indian households — and it works as a first-level energy filter.

In cases where nazar dosh has manifested as persistent relationship or family problems and standard remedies are not producing results, a consultation with a vashikaran specialist may help identify whether additional spiritual remedies are needed alongside the planetary work.

Similarly, if you have been experiencing symptoms consistent with black magic in addition to nazar dosh — particularly if the effects seem intentional rather than accidental — our detailed article on black magic symptoms and how to identify them in your kundali will help you understand the distinction and determine whether additional remedies are required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is nazar dosh permanent?

No. Nazar dosh is externally caused, not natal. It is not a fixed part of your birth chart. With the right remedies matched to your planetary combination, nazar dosh effects can be cleared. The timeframe depends on how long the dosh has been active and which Dasha period is running. Most cases show improvement within 3 to 6 months with consistent treatment.

Can nazar dosh affect a home or business, not just a person?

Yes. Nazar dosh can attach to a home, a shop, or a business — not just an individual. Homes that receive a great deal of admiring or envious attention from visitors are particularly susceptible. A business that grows rapidly and becomes visibly successful often attracts the kind of attention that creates nazar dosh for the premises. In these cases, remedies must address the physical space, not just the individual.

Which lagna is most vulnerable to nazar dosh?

Cancer lagna and Scorpio lagna are considered the most vulnerable in classical Vedic analysis. Cancer is ruled by the Moon — the primary aura planet — and Scorpio houses the Moon’s debilitation point. Both lagnas have the Moon as a central planetary influence, making Moon-weakness especially impactful. Gemini lagna with a weak Moon in the 12th house (Taurus) is also commonly seen in nazar dosh cases.

Can Nazar Dosh cause a relationship breakdown or divorce?

Yes. Persistent nazar dosh — especially when affecting the 7th house or Venus — can create inexplicable distance, conflict, and emotional disconnection between partners. The relationship deteriorates without a clear cause from within. This is one of the most painful manifestations of the dosh because both partners blame each other for something that has an external energy cause.

How long do nazar dosh remedies take to work?

This depends on three factors: how long the dosh has been active, which Dasha period is running, and how consistently the remedies are followed. In most cases, improvement begins within 4 to 8 weeks of consistent treatment. Full clearing, where the person’s aura is restored, and the effects have reversed, typically takes three to nine months. During Rahu Mahadasha, the process may require sustained effort for a longer period.

How Astrologer Anil Acharya Can Help

Nazar dosh cannot be properly assessed without a kundali.

You need to know which planets are creating susceptibility, which nakshatra your Moon occupies, and which Dasha period is active — before the right remedy can be prescribed. Generic remedies help at a surface level. Chart-specific remedies address the actual cause.

In 15 years of practice and over 5,000 consultations, I have assessed nazar dosh in hundreds of charts. The pattern is consistent. The chart always reveals what is happening. And the right remedy — matched to the specific planetary combination — always produces a result.

If you are experiencing persistent, unexplained difficulties in health, finances, relationships, or home life, your chart deserves a thorough review.
